Title: Vanishing Point
Rating: K+/PG
Genre: General
Claim: Sango
Theme: Soul
Word Count: 243
Notes: Could be seen as a companion piece to Another Promise but it can also stand alone. Involves knowledge of manga plotlines involving Kikyou and Kohaku.
Summary: She wishes for only one thing. To know that he is alive and not just a ghost from her past.
She longs to see him one more time, to know he is alive and not just a ghost from the past. Her breath catches in her throat as a lone shinidamachuu passes by, gliding along the air. The faint glow that surrounds the creature carrying the soul makes her shudder, but she follows its path as best as she can, hope clouding her judgment with each step.
It makes a low, crooning noise and Sango nearly trips over a root, so caught up her quest that she begins to forget her surroundings. By the time she rights herself she is alone, the creature having disappeared amongst the foliage.
A hand clamps down on her shoulder and it takes every part of her training to not scream. Lightly fingering a hidden blade, she tries to relax her muscles in an effort to confuse whoever stands behind her.
Laughter reaches her ears and she stiffens. “I would never underestimate you, taiji-ya, and yet you underestimate me. I could have an arrow embedded into your heart before you could swing your hidden weapon. A pity you’ve left your overgrown piece of bone behind.”
“Where is Kohaku?”
“He is safe. You will find him when the time is right.”
Bristling, Sango turns to face her tormenter, not caring about her own safety. The words freeze in her throat. There is nothing but mist surrounding the area and no clue that the once miko had ever been there.
